Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree from the department of English literature. Mitchell began as a radio and TV reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington she was made general correspondent by NBC News two year later. In 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became the chief reporter for Congress. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell is a regular as a guest on TV news show Meet the Press as a host and panelist. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the 1988 debates with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her role to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell reported on in the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy issues, such as the arms control, the budget tax and the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to numerous summits in the company of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
